Above is St Matthew’s ohmage to Peter Walker Sculptor’s wonderful hanging art installation. There are 1400 doves, each with a prayer of peace written on by our congregations and local community members. Below is more information on the artist himself and an example of his stunning work.
This project is part of the wider national touring project 'Peace Doves' by Peter Walker Sculptor, ‘Peace Doves’ is an artwork by Peter Walker Sculptor, a beautiful large scale hanging art installation, lit and set to music by Composer David Harper. Participants write a message of peace on a paper dove which joins the thousands of doves that hang in the central installations that tour to venues across the country, venues including national Cathedrals such as Liverpool, Chichester and Durham. A long side the central artworks, thousands of school children and members of community groups are also invited to participate in the project with the goal of also creating their own artworks at their own school and community group settings. Participants and visitors are invited to appreciate the scale and beauty of the final installation, to experience a sense of serenity and peace and to reflect upon the messages that make each installation unique to those who took part. Over 100,000 people have taken part in the central installations. Hundreds of schools have taken part creating their own mini Peace Doves artworks. Peace Doves has visited 9 National Cathedrals.
